Organizations can be a lot of fun and provide benefit to members. Unfortunately the game doesn't explain organizations well and it can be frustrating for those who don't understand how organizations work.
Basically an organization needs animals for reputation, which determines its rank compared to other organizations, and it needs Zoo Dollars (ZD) to pay for preserves in which to place the animals and to pay for rangers to care for the animals and boost reputation. In exchange the organization provide experience (XP) bonuses when fundraisers are completed, and up to 32 new friends and trading partners. Being a member of an organization also gives you access to the only chat function available in the game.
In a nutshell...
How the organization helps you:
How you can help the organization:
For many members, being part of an organization also provides some additional depth to the game; it adds more long-term goals, a sense of competition and, at least sometimes, a sense of accomplishment.
Membership
Some organizations don't care about reputation and ranking. In Mammoth, we worked very hard to obtain our position as server 2's number 1 organization and we'd like to keep that position. To that end, we seek active members who consistently participate to the best of their ability.
Inactive or low-participation members do not have a direct negative effect on the organization, but with relatively few member spots we would rather those positions be filled with members who do want to contribute and help our organization grow. In fact, aside from the XP bonus, a big reason we hold regular fundraisers is to track participation. Those who fail to donate or donate less than the minimum requirement (without good reason) will be removed from the organization.
Those who consistently participate and donate above and beyond our minimum requirements will likely be promoted to deputy. Active deputies who contribute regularly become candidates for cofounder.
A Note to New Members
A hard lesson in life is that in order to help others, you first must be able to help yourself. This also holds true in the game; we often get new members around level 20 who are frothing at the bit with eagerness to help the organization grow, but who, unfortunately, end up giving more than they can afford to give, hurting themselves more than they help the organization.
We understand that you have very limited resources at lower levels and we don't expect a lot of donations. The best thing you can do at these levels is focus on growing your zoo so you can make significant, high level donations that much sooner. In fact, most high level members in Mammoth will happily help you complete card sets and do anything else we can to help your zoo grow. Just ask!
This does not mean you can't stand out as a particularly productive member. We know that, for example, a 10,000 ZD donation at level 15 is pretty significant. You don't need to go broke trying to match the 100,000 ZD donations of a level 40 member just to get our attention.

Tips
- Please do not donate rabbits, zebras or parrots. These animals only take up valuable preserve space without generating reputation.
- If you want to donate animals to an organization, you will save a whole lot of ZD by breeding these animals instead of purchasing them.
- Animals that cost ZD produce a lot more reputation for the organization than animals that cost Diamonds; ZD animals are preferred donations.
- ZD donations are always appreciated, but are most beneficial during fundraisers. If there's a fundraiser coming up, save your donations until then.
- Animals and ZD donated to the org can never be returned; donate carefully!
